Overwhelming day? Overwhelming Love!

Ever have one of those overwhelming days, weeks, or maybe you just think life in general is overwhelming? I have to admit I’ve felt that way lately. Life’s circumstances, life’s pressures all seem to gang up on me all at once. A lot of the stress I feel I admit is probably put there by myself, but how do you just relax and let stuff roll off your back when it’s not in your personality to do so? I realize we all have things in our life that make us feel overwhelmed, stressed to the core, like the walls are going to just cave in at any minute. It seems convenient that these things all seem to pile up at once rather than spreading out.
Today I was gently reminded of what God said to us. It’s that verse we hear so many times, but fail to remember it when it matters. James 4:8 “Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Clean up your lives, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you people who can't make up your mind.” Come near to God, and He will come near to you. So simple. I’m reminded of times when I was a child and hurting, I would simply just run to Dad or Mom and they would make things better. In their arms I knew things would be alright. I felt safe, secure, and had no worries.
I think that is how God wants us to feel with Him. Overwhelmed? Stressed? Pressures of life beating down on you? Run to Him, and He RUNS to us. His overwhelming love is greater than anything else.
I’m reminded of the old hymn we used to sing in church, but the words are so prevalent today.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

God did not intend for us to carry life’s burdens, because it robs us of joy.

God help me to be overwhelmed by Your love rather than life.
