WFMW: Chilling Soda Cans

Easter Sunday (after a very un-fun event-filled week...I am sparing you all the details) we opened the freezer after church and Jason found a rootbeer that he forgot he wanted the night before.

This was not a fun one for me to clean up!

It reminded me however of a great tip - a fast way (other than the freezer) to chill a can of soda. All you need to do is fill a bowl up with a few ice cubes and some cold water. Submerge your can into the water and in just a few minutes you'll have yourself a nice cold soda to drink! The water is the essential part - just ice doesn't seem to chill as quickly. I am guessing it is because the cold is not coming into contact with enough of the surface area of the can. I am not one for creating more dishes - hence, I would normally not want to "dirty" a bowl to do this. But, I promise, washing one bowl is a lot faster than cleaning your freezer!

This happened to my car earlier this winter with a 12 pack of Diet Coke. Not much fun to clean up, either. Great tip to chill it though!

I'm always putting my soda in the freezer even if I just took it out of the fridge. I like it to be just on the border of slushiness. I too have forgotten a soda a time or three and if it doesn't explode in the freezer - it might end up exploding when it's open and partly frozen.

This is such a good tip. :) I never even thought of doing this - and I've had to clean out my freezer a time or two. ;)
Thanks for stopping by my blog, too! I love to "meet" new friends. :)

You can thaw things out pretty quickly in a sink full of tepid water, too. And as a general rule, I don't consider a bowl or glass dirty if it's only touched water. I just dump it out and flip it over into the drainer to dry. :-)

I think it is funny that you took pictures of this in order to blog about. Thanks for having us over. Hannah and I had a lovely time. We need to talk about next week and going to work. Would Wednesday work? Let me know.

supposedly if you add some salt to the ice/water mix it chills it even faster-it was on "Myth Busters"-yes, I am a dweeb :)

This too actually happened to my mom. She 24 pack in the back of her minivan, so unfortunately it wasn't just contained to the trunk. We still bug her about it :) tee hee.
